FEA / Finite Element Analysis

Pinnacle FEA is a Powerful,
Proven Tool to Help You:

FEA / Finite Element Analysis

The use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in the design and
validation of fabrications and structures has steadily increased
as software costs have decreased.

Companies can purchase the hardware and software to develop
their own models.  However, it is important to note that owning the
software does not equate to having the expertise needed to
develop accurate models, and correctly interpret the results.

As with any “canned” software package, the accuracy of the
output is only as good as the accuracy of the input data.  In the
case of FEA / Finite Element Analysis, input includes elements of
cells, material properties, nodal displacements, (point of constraint)
mesh density, and boundary conditions.  If any of these critical
components are not developed as accurate representations of the
actual structure, output data will present wide variations, results
will not be valid, and substantial resources will have been wasted.

Pinnacle Engineering Inc. has developed FEA models for
industrial clients for over nine years.
  We have a unique ability
to merge Finite Element Analysis data with classical calculation
methodologies. The result is precise, results-based
reporting that is immediately relevant and accessible.

Pinnacle structures its reports so that managers, engineers
and other key personnel can comfortably review our findings

and fully understand the recommendations, and their rationale.
(See example)  Our FEA project volume has grown consistently
each year, along with the type and scale of projects we have
been awarded.

In the material handling industry, Pinnacle clients have found
our FEA services to be valuable time and cost-savers for the
development of parts carriers, cantilevered structures,
lift carriages, carrying chains and power-train components
In most cases, analyses of these types of structures can be
completed for less than $5,000.

In addition to our extensive portfolio of structure analyses,
Pinnacle Engineering, Inc. has experience in the review and
analysis of complex assemblies such as lift units and other
automatic equipment where combined models and stresses
were analyzed to quantify the structural integrity of the
entire unit.

Pinnacle FEA Analysis Saves Dollars
and Time, Enhances Safety

Here are summaries of four recent
FEA Analysis projects; the photos
referenced (1-4) are shown at the
top of this page.

1. Analysis of Carrier (photo)

Pinnacle conducted a Finite Element Analysis of the carrier
shown here to determine stress and deflection. The OEM
believed the carrier would fail and an increase in the stock
size of the fabrication was required. A Pinnacle static
analysis documented that this was unnecessary,
saving time and money.

2. Analysis of Inflator (photo)

Pinnacle conducted a Finite Element Analysis to determine
if this existing equipment could be used to inflate a new tire
requiring 50% higher pressure. It was determined that
modifications to the equipment were required before
an increased pressure in the machine could be
achieved safely.

3. Analysis of Vertical Lift (photo)

Pinnacle conducted this Finite Element Analysis as part
of a field failure investigation. It was determined that
equipment enhancements could be made easily, saving
the OEM the $10,000 previously estimated for this upgrade.

4. Analysis of Carrier (photo)

A Pinnacle finite element analysis of this carrier helped an
automaker improve the manufacturing process. A static
analysis located stress and deflection sites, and design
improvements were implemented to minimize stress
and maximize fatigue life.
